My Girlfriend

Well, this was quite the week. :)

Let me backup to last Saturday, the 11th, when Kath and I went out on our second date which grew to be one of the longest dates ever: ice skating, playing games, watching "When a Stranger Calls", having dinner, listening to a comedian, and just sharing in conversation with each other. It was great fun, and we got to learn so much about each other.

Anyway, the rest of the week continued the momentum of the first and second dates.. For Valentine's, we cooked dinner at my apartment and watched "Monster's Inc".. Thursday we got together again and watched a Brian Regan DVD I had just received in the mail [hilarious].. and then yesterday since it was so cold out, we just spent a lot of time hanging out at Kath's dorm listening to music, ordering pizza, and playing random games. Oh yeah, and coloring in a coloring book.. haha.. don't remember the last time I did that.

It's crazy for me to think that we've only known each other for a little over a month, but we've already grown very close. We decided that things were going really well and we're excited to see what's in store for us.. so now we're officially in a relationship. yay! It's been a while since I've had a girlfriend, so it still hasn't completely sunk in yet.. but it's a great feeling. :)

Can you tell I'm happy and excited about all this? Hehe.
Car accident? Who cares anymore? :) Alright, more to come later..

First Date

Wow, my first post of the new year. Guess I'm late as always with this. I'm just going to give a brief overview of everything that followed after the accident.. There's just too much to list.

I have a new car now, it's a 2002 silver Honda Civic. Although two days after I got it I had to have the battery replaced, it seems like it's doing reasonably well now.

I finally received the title to my Corolla, but my dad and I are both listed as the owners. So, I have to have it notarized, send it my dad and have him sign & notarize it, and then forward it to the insurance company. Then I'll get the final check and be done with the automobile portion of the claim.

As for the medical, I'm still working through it. The day after the accident, I could see that there was a big black & blue mark just above my kneecap. At first I thought I must have hit it on the dashboard, but the more I looked at it, the more I realize it must have been the steering wheel. Anyway, two weeks after the accident, my knee got a horrible pain just below the knee cap, to the point where I couldn't even walk on it, it hurt so much. I went to the doctor, they took x-rays but didn't find any kind of permanent damage, short of taking an MRI. They subscribed physical therapy, so that's what I've been going to for the past two weeks. It seems to be going well - I haven't taken advil since Tuesday and the therapist thinks the swelling in my knee is going down. More importantly, I can walk, even if it feels a little awkward still.

On to more interesting things.. Last weekend I had the pleasure of going out with Katherine, a really cute & cool girl who's going to Baldwin-Wallace here in the area. We took a little walk over to a coffee shop and hung out, talking about random things, while drinking hot chocolate. At one point during our conversation she said "Heck yes" and then proceeded to ask if I had ever seen Napoleon Dynamite.. Wow. Since it was such a nice day out, we took a stroll around the campus and she was showing me some of the buildings. It was interesting to be on a campus again. We hung out at her dorm for a little bit, and ended up watching Pirates of the Caribbean together.

We had both said we were more introverted, so I was prepared to deal with a little bit of awkwardness, but I gotta say I felt pretty comfortable around her & hopefully she felt the same. Most importantly though, she's got a good set of Christian values, which is awesome. Anyhow, she was out of town for the weekend, so we didn't get together, but hopefully we'll go out again soon. Instead I watched a bunch of movies, ran errands (as always) and am trying to stay warm since it actually feels like winter now.

The Super Bowl is on in a little bit, and I'm prepared to watch it [mainly for the commercials]. Got some pizza yesterday so I wouldn't have to order today [I worked at a Pizza Hut on a Superbowl Sunday once.. and it was the most awful thing.. ever..] Anyway, I'll keep you posted!

Mass Update

It's peanut butter jelly time! Oh wait.. no, I mean, it's time for another mass update.

Thanksgiving Eve
A bit frightening, actually. At work on Wednesday, my coworkers informed me that there was a snowstorm heading to the area, and when I checked out the details, they said drifts up to 6 feet in the snow belt. Um, no thank you. I'll take traffic over snow any day. So, as soon as I got out of work, I headed back to my apartment, packed up, and hit the road. A few miles into Pennsylvania on I-80, I saw some brake lights ahead, so I put on the brake a bit, and noticed the car started to slide.. So I eased up, and tried again. That's when I lost control. The car veered right, then left, and before I knew it, the car engaged in a 90-degree spin, leaving my car stopped across both lanes of traffic. Thankfully, the nearest vehicle [ a pickup truck ] was able to stop. I knew I had to get off the road, so I put the gas on.. and for some reason my car when in reverse. At this point, I didn't care, I knew I had to get off.. so, I put on the gas, and my car ended up [ luckily ] on a flat piece of grass with no other obstructions. When I looked down at the dashboard, basically all the lights had lit up [check oil, check engine, etc] I waited for just a bit to calm down and looked around. To the right of me, there was another car pulled over. To my left and just ahead on the other side of the road were two other cars that had clearly been involved in an accident. When I got the courage to continue the trip, I noticed a bunch of "pings" coming from around my car.. It wasn't doing it at the time, but it must have hailed in the region just before I got there. I guess my car couldn't handle the ball-bearings or maybe I hit some black ice. Whatever it was, I was a little shooken up, but I got home OK..

Thanksgiving
Of course it was good to see my parents and sister! Lots of good food and funny stories, as always. Also, a friend of my sister's has a little rabbit named Bella and since she was out of town, my sister and parents were taking care for it. So that was a lot of fun. If they could somehow gentically engineer one that didn't smell, I would love to get a little rabbit for my apartment. :) Over the break I also got to hang out with Paul, which is always entertaining. He's one of about three and a half people that I still keep in touch with from high school.

Ice Skating
Well, Lesley and I ate out at Panera, wandered around Borders, and then went ice skating for a bit the Saturday before Thanksgiving. It was fun, but I'm having a really hard time reading her. I didn't get a good vibe after the date, so I was just going to wait and see if she called... My sister asked about her Wednesday night, so I told my parents about her and then mentioned the "vibe".. they all kind of looked at me strangely and basically said "are you crazy? call her" I guess I'm naive about the initial dating stuff.

So, I left a message with her Thanksgiving.. don't hear back from her for a while, so I assume I was right and she's not interested. Then Monday rolls around and she leaves a message with me.. Tuesday I call, but she's not around.. Finally Wednesday we're both there and we chat for a while... On Friday she sent me a funny email forward, and it looks like we might go out to the movies or something soon. So, it certainly looks like she's at least a little bit interested.. I just can't tell. I kind of wonder if she's sort of like NJ Marisa - and isn't quite sure what she's looking for yet.

At the very least, it's nice to know someone my age in the area that I can hang out with. We'll see how things go.

Drew Carey and the Improv Allstars
Oh man.. I got to see the show this weekend, and was a little nervous. The area was getting hit with some snow that was the edge of an Alberta clipper. After my last trip, I was certainly hesitant to do any longer-distance driving. Especially at night, and to a place I've never been before. Most of it was on the highway, which wasn't bad, although my car did slide a little bit on the exit ramp [which was not plowed at all] It was very easy to get to, and I would like to go back and explore the city a little bit.

Anyway, on to the show. My seat was FRONT ROW, but it was pushed all the way to the right - so it wasn't perfect, but it was dang close. Found out that when Drew's not on TV he has the mouth of a sailor. When he noticed some kids in the audience, he was asking if either of them played Grand Theft Auto.. the older [15] said he did, and the younger [10] watched. So after that he said "Well, f*ck, f*ck,f*ck,f*ck-diddy-f*ck then" .etc..

A really weird part about the show was shortly after this when a guy from the back of the arena started to heckle Drew. Not sure why you would pay money to come do that, but oh well.

The rest of the show was hilarious! It was Drew, Kathy Kinney [Mimi], Greg Proops, Chip Esten, Jeff Davis, Sean Masterson [only seen him on the Green Screen show] and Jonathan Mangum [appeared on the Drew Carey show too] . My favorite skit was when they did Jeopardy... Some of the characters were generic, but the really funny ones were Kathy who played as Mimi [really hamming it up], Chip who played Napoleon Dynamite [complete with dance scene], and Jeff Davis who played Christopher Walken [complete with awkward pauses]

There was a losing battle between Chip and the rest of the audience over the Steelers vs Browns debate. I'm glad I've lived here long enough to understand these jokes. :)

So between seeing Wayne Brady when I first moved to NJ, later seeing Colin Mocharie and Brad Sherwood, and now this Drew Carey show, I've basically seen them all. Well, all but Ryan Stiles. I wonder what happened to him?

Upcoming Attractions
At work we're having a white elephant gift exchange on Thursday so that should be fun. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the morale at ICI is completely different from that of AT&T

Rather than put a Christmas tree up in my apartment [I'm not sure where it would go] I think I can probably put it on my balcony. Wouldn't have to bother with any ornaments - just a couple lights and it's good to go. I was driving by earlier today, and you can definitely see it from the main road too. In fact.. I think I might do that right now.. Cya!

Lesley Date

Well, had my first Ohio date today.

I had decided to give Yahoo Personals a go, as a quick way of meeting some interesting people in the area. Well, for the past week Lesley and I have been exchanging emails and we found we had a lot to talk about. So today we met up in a little coffee shop, "The Book and Bean", in Berea. It was really a lot of fun; she's a very down-to-earth kind of girl. Likes going out to a bar on occasion, but it sounds like she would like to stay in and play cards just as much. Random things about her: her dimples are cute, she shops at JCPenny, likes Coldplay, likes the movie Kill Bill, etc. Very cool girl.

What's with these marathon first dates though? I thought usually it was supposed to be about an hour, but with Marisa in New Jersey, it was about 3, and now with Lesely, we were there for 4 hours. Crazy.

Maybe I'm actually getting a little better with this dating thing?

Anyhow, no solid plans for a second date, but I hope we can go out again.

Oh well, gotta get stuff ready for work tomorrow.. Blah..
