Otto the Car

So.. few people know that I named my car, and fewer still might know what the name of it is. I decided I'd make a little post dedicated to him. So, let's get down to it. Why is 'Otto' the perfect name for my car?

1) First off, the obvious... the word is a homonym of 'Auto'. Easy enough.

2) Well, my car is specifically a Civic, and I thought the use of another palindrome was appropriate. Not many names could be spelled the same forward and backward.

3) This one's a stretch, but hear me out. If you look at the letters in the name, it almost looks like a car. Especially if you use uppercase on only the T's, like oTTo . Don't the o's look like wheels, and the 'TT' makes the perfect body.

So yeah, I'm weird, but I like adding double or triple meanings to the strange things I do in life. Say 'hi' to Otto if you see him...

Car Crash

Well.. that totally sucked...

I was just involved in a serious automobile accident. Thankfully, I am OK, as far as I can tell. I wouldn't be surprised if I have a little bit of whiplash or something tomorrow, but other than that, I'm doing ok physically. The entire rear of my car is entirely smashed in though..

I was stopped at a red light, and a big pickup truck ran right into my back. I didn't hear any brakes or anything [the road is a 35 zone].. Just sitting there, and then a big crash. My car started drifting out into the intersection before I stopped it.. Got out of the car, walked back to the other driver.. Called 9-1-1.. Meanwhile, other motorists were getting out to see if everyone was OK, and to say that they were witnesses [thankfully] that would agree that the guy just ran right into me. Police arrived.. the man was taken to the hospital - his air-bag deployed and he wasn't feeling well. When I went to his window to see how things were going, he sseemed VERY out of it.. to the point where I wondered if he had been DUI. The police took down the information. It was misting.. not a lot of rain, but enough that wipers were necessary. I had my seatbelt on.. the police let me wait in his car while he got down all the other information.. That was weird.. no way out until the police came by and opened the door again. The car was in no condition to drive, so it was towed away.. Since I didn't have anyone to call, the policeman was nice enough to drive me back to my apartment.

Now I get to worry about insurance, and getting a rental car, and getting back my original car.. all that fun stuff. I already called into work and told my boss I wouldn't be coming in. There's no sense to it, I have no way of getting there, and nothing's going to go on anyway.. out of my team of 14 people, only 2 of them [1 of them being me] were going to be in. So, the only fortunate thing is that now it's a 4 day weekend..

Gosh.. between this and the almost-accident on I-80, it's going to be hard for me to get in a car again.. Guess that will be my resolution for 2006.. No incidents.. [not that I had any control of either of these]

Anyway.. now to try to find out how to relax for the night...
