Goals When 25

So, I stumbled upon this a while ago, and thought it might be kind of neat to share with everyone. Nearly 9 years ago in my 11th grade English class, we had to pick some things we wanted for when we were 25. Since I've been 25 for a little while now, I thought I would reflect on my choices...

1) I want to have my own, good computer.
Hehe, yeah I was (and still am) a dork. So, since I bought my own after my sophomore year of college, I'm saying this one is complete.

2) I want to have a steady relationship.
When I wrote this, I hadn't yet had a girlfriend, or really even seriously dated anyone. This one is definitely complete though. How much more steady can you get than finding the one you'll spend the rest of your life with? :)

3) I want to be financially secure.
This one's complete. My job pays me enough, I finished paying off my student loans, my car, and now I'm just saving up for the future that Kath and I will share together.

4) I want to have my college degree.
Straightforward enough. Graduated from Penn State in 2003 with my degree in Information Sciences & Technology (did I mention I'm a dork?) and my minor in French.

5) I want to have a job dealing with computers or arts.
I like the fact that even then I was still divided on my desire for logic and numbers versus creativity and expressions. I'm working for ICI Paints in the data warehousing team, so I've definitely got my job dealing with computers.

6) I want to be as creative as I am now.
Well, I don't quite remember how creative I was back then.. I think I probably wrote a lot more back in 11th grade than I do now. Luckily, hobbies like designing websites give me a creative outlet in my life. For this one, I'm only going to say I was partially successful. I could use a little more creativity, which is why on my Goals I have listed that I would like to take an art course sometime (I should look into that)

7) I want to improve the relationship between my sister and I.
When I was in high school and my sister was in junior high, we would butt heads all the time. With both of our hormones raging, we never saw eye-to-eye and I can remember times when both of us would just scream at each other. In my notes at the bottom of the page it says "I hope when I move away, I will have a stronger relationship with her" When I went off to college, there was a definite improvement, but I think there was an even bigger improvement when she came to college too. We were even close enough to take classes together. Recently, there are big changes going on in both of our lives, and I think we're kind of learning how to argue with each other. That might sound silly, but I feel like we both used to deal with our disagreements by running away from them, in one form or another. Now we've both become very vocal and open about our feelings. In any case, we still butt heads, but it's definitely an improvement over how we were in 11th grade. So, I'm going to give this one a partial success.

8) I want to maintain my religious beliefs.
11th grade was a strong time in my spiritual growth. This was the time when we went through Confirmation, and so we were having really thought-provoking conversations in CCD, and at least one retreat we went on. (random thought: I think one thing that needs to be improved in the whole CCD process is teaching more about other religions though. I still remember the very first day I talked with James on the phone and he told me he was Baptist. I was telling my dad this and he was asking me if he liked Christian music. I said something like, "umm, probably not, he's Baptist", meaning that I thought a Baptist was different from a Christian. I was 18, and didn't even know that a Baptist was a type of Protestant.)
It's comforting to know that God is still a big part of my life and that college didn't take that away from me. In fact, rooming with James and spending time with a group that was primarily Christian continued to strengthen my spiritual resolve little-by-little. Being with Kath has only continued this growth and I'm really excited for what the future holds for us. While there's still room for improvement, this one's a success.

So, I guess you could say 7 out of 8 items were completed. What's that, 87.5%.. a B+ ? That works. :) I wonder if I should make a prediction for when I'm 30? That could be fun!
